Types of Hosting

Types of Hosting

Shared Hosting

It is the simplest method of hosting where multiple websites share the same server resources. It is suitable for small to medium sized websites with moderate traffic.

In this, your website will be stored on the same server with multiple websites. With a shared hosting plan, all domains share the same server resources such as RAM and CPU.

It is the cheapest way of hosting a website as all server resources are shared.

The disadvantage is sudden surge in usage can ultimately affect your website’s user experience as you are sharing the server with multiple other website owners.

Dedicated Hosting

It gives website owners the most control over the server that their website is stored on. That’s because the server is exclusively rented by you and your website is the only one stored on it.

Website owner have full root and admin access, so you can control everything from security to operating system that you run.

It is suitable for large enterprises or websites with high traffic and those who are in need of complete control of their servers. It is also one of the most expensive web hosting options.

Pros: Full control, high performance, and resource allocation.

Cons: Expensive, requires technical expertise for management.

VPS Hosting

Virtual Private server web hosting plan combines the feature of dedicated and shared hosting. VPS hosting is unique because each website is hosted within its own space on the server, though it still shares the physical server with other users.

VPS hosting provides businesses and website owners the ability to customise their storage resources on the web server without necessarily needing a dedicated server.

It’s ideal for website owners that need more control, but don’t necessarily need a dedicated server.

Pros-

provides features of dedicated hosting but at lower cost.

Higher uptimes and speed than shared hosting.

Cons-

cannot handle high traffic due to resource sharing.

Only few aspects of server can be controlled.

Cloud Hosting

Cloud Hosting utilizes a network of interconnected servers to distribute resources dynamically. It offers scalability and flexibility, allowing websites to handle varying traffic loads by tapping into large pool of resources.

Pros- scalable, flexible and reliable.

Cons- costs can increase with usage and intricate pricing models could add to the complexity of overall costs.

Colocation Hosting

It involves space in data centre to house your own servers and hardware, allowing you to benefit from data centres infrastructure while maintaining control over your equipment.

Managed Hosting

It is a service where the provider takes care of the technical aspects of hosting, like server management, security, and maintenance. This allows the user to focus on their project or business without worrying over the technicalities of running a website.
